Tafelen by Nicolette van Doorn

A cow on a filed and a coffee cup with some toasts next to it. A sunset, a upset friend and some jamón ibérico ready to cut. We could be writing titles of contemporary still life paintings, yes, but no. It's all about Nicoletta's new photozine published by us, Bad Weather Press.

Titled with a dutch word, Tafelen, and printed on a experimental small run of 30 copies, you can enjoy this passion for food, a personal graphic diary and some strange blurry but nice pictures from de iberian península.

Vietnam's reunification express

News, News! Some of you have seen the website with lot’s of new stuff. Vietnam’s Reunification Express is the first photozine we publish from the low cost photo-traveler Isma Monfort Vialcanet.

Born in Barcelona, and full time photographer and traveler. He has been always working in the audiovisuals sector, but now, he is enjoying traveling and explaining the experiences on the blog.

Crosta Brava

Crosta Brava is the name of the last photozine from Carles Palacio, a photographer from Girona we already work with in two previous zines: Capitalismo Barbarie and Agno3.

This work, relates to a summary of a previous long (and on-going) work of "shoots of the territory" with different atmospheres, climates and geographies. This one, specifically focused on Costa Brava, the north coast of Catalonia, a beautifull and also damaged coast, with two important natural parks: Cap de Creus and Illes Medes.

You will also notice another natural environment, located a little far from the coast but still in the same line of sight as the other images: the lake of banyoles.

The title is a pun. “Crosta” (Crust) and “Costa” (Coast) have practically the same pronunciation in catalan, but crosta sounds more forceful, unromantic and, sometimes, even rude. Brave Crust.

Northwestern wild by Paula Prats

In trip to Canada, in a small island near Vancouver, Paula Prats begins a visual narrative story in a subjective way, shooting all the incidents that happen around focusing on elements that make the place unique.

Sunbeams through the trees, wooden shelters, the shore and sometimes, the disturbing presence of somebody hiding his face are an example of this enigmatic story Paula tries to show.

Northwestern wild is the name of this first photozine we published from Paula Prats, a young valencian highly motivated photographer with a solid experience and several collective and individual exhibitions throughout the world. You can use our online shop here to buy one, or check our usual bookstores.

With the first 50 photozines, we include a free mini booklet printed by Do The Print, a nice risography studio in Barcelona who rightly suggested that flower seeds paper to print the booklet. Hurry, after the presentation of the photozine in the Gutter Fest, we only have a few!

Carlos Cancela interview on We Are Drifters.

Long-time We Are Drifters contributor and collaborator Carlos Cancela Pinto is back with a new publication, his fifth. Bright On 30 is filled with photos of lazy tourists spending endless summer  days on Brighton’s pier. The beautiful landscape format and gorgeous paper make this book a real treat.

How did the idea behind the series develop?

There was no plan or idea. Last year, in July, I went to Brighton, and because it was my first time I wanted to visit the famous pier. When I arrived to the pier, I was fascinated with the amount of people just having fun in one the hottest day in UK (the temperature was around 30°C). I was lucky with the light and just started shooting all the things that were happening around me: interesting landscapes and people with lots of different sounds, colours and smells. The whole set was shot in one single roll – I was indeed very lucky.

Did it start out as a book concept or did it become that later on?

I thought the whole set was coherent so it was easy to imagine it as a book. I contacted my good friends at Bad Weather Press (who I published Natureza, Luz, Homem) and they were interested...

Senza Meta (photos)

From May to now, at the end of June, there was a exhibition on Reggio Emilia called Senza Meta, about photography and specially Photobooks and Photozines. This year, in one of the big exhibitions, there was the Natureza, luz, homem photozine by Carlos Cancela and published by Bad Weather Press. The second edition of the photozine is still available to buy here.

Bright on 30

On Gutter Fest we launched three new zines, one of them, a second photozine by Carlos Cancela named "Bright on 30". The photozine narrates a very hot day of August in the city of Brighton, England. Thousands of people hundreds of people braved the heat on the seaside and on the famouse Brighton Pie.

You can get a copy of the zine on the website or on festivals and shops where we usually go.

Pilgrimage by Ekaterina Solovieva

A month ago, we published Pilgrimage (ПАЛОМНИКИ), a limited edition photozine in black and white about, yeah..., a pilgrimage. The report and the tracking of all the journeys were made, with a lot of patience, by Ekaterina Solovieva.

Ekaterina Solovieva is from Moscow (Москва́), and after graduating as a journalist at the University of Moscow, he moved to Hamburg, were she stills working with its greatest passion: photography.

New zines! February 2014

Oh! We have new stuff! Some of them were already on the website, but now you can buy them here. The first one was "No saquen las flores" from Pere Saguer and you can have a preview here. The second photozine is our first publication from Irene Serrano, a young photographer from Barcelona and addicted to party.

World Photobook Day

Monday, 14 October was the Internacional Photobook day. We didn't knew that untill we saw the poster from Photobook Club Madrid. We copy the information from there to understand the why of this day:

This date is a direct homage to the first photobook known: Photographs of British algae. Cyanotype impressions of Anna Atkins. Since we do not know the date of publication, we have taken the date of entry in the catalog the copies for the British Library.

This year marks the 170th anniversary of that date and we’d love you to join this celebration and turn that day into a global event organizing an event related to the Photobook in your respective cities. (The news continues here).

We didn't go to Madrid, and we couldn't go to the activity the Photobook Club Barcelona did the day before at the "Observatorio" (photographs here), but we did a small chat to some master students at La Massana school of Art and Design. We talked about the photozines we published on Bad Weather and we add other phtozines from the Fanzinepaper collection.
